I really want Nikon to make a Z50 Mark II (or a Z60?) Microphone Sensitivity. Best regardsBernhardhttps://deramateurphotograph.de/. So no they aren't bad lenses, these are probably the best kitlenses ever made from a camera company. Other times I'll put one or two on stands and control them using a remote in the camera's hotshoe (again, in manual mode), especially for macro photography—the following image was taken with the Nikon 60mm AF-D lens, with manual focus: For my DSLRs, which focus using the camera's maximum aperture, then right before taking the picture, switch to the selected aperture, this doesn't present a problem. (127 x 94 x 60 mm) and the camera weighs 18.8 oz (533 g) … For some reason, the 50mm f/1.8 seemed to hunt ever so slightly more on the Z50 than my D750, but it could just be a different algorithm causing more back-and-forth when using AF-C on the mirrorless sensor. I finally got a hands on with the Z50 in the store. You might like new canon to Z mount AF adaptershttps://nikonrumors.com/2020/01/02/new-z-mount-adapters.aspx/. AF in the Z50 is practically identical to the Z6 and Z7. It put my a6400 in the closet. The Z50 is based around an updated version of the 20.2MP sensor we fist saw in the D500. Eye detect also works great.Ergonomics is better than the sony A-series and fuji x-t30.Overall, I like the camera. Form factor, ergonomics, and performance of the Z50 with the 16-50mm is unmatched IMO. with IBIS, a side-articulating screen, dual UHS-II card slots, and 10-bit video at least over HDMI. Works in the opposite manner in S mode (shutter speed rear/exposure comp front). So how does it perform? The review was written shortly after launch, so we only knew the launch price of the Z50 ($860, body only). Thanks for the tip. This pixel race is probably just because they are struggling to find ways to really get useful improvements on what we have already. Canon and Nikon always shared the mount, and it made sense. Both cameras are in the same class and nearly the same price. "but flip any of Nikon's APS-C DSLRs into live view, and you get a focus-hunting mess".Soooooo, now DPR is at last honest about LV AF on Nikon DSLR bodies. The company says the camera is designed to attract a generation of users who don't consider themselves to be photographers. "Priced more like a D5600"What do they mean?D7500 is currently 520€ at Amazon, D7500 is 862€, Z50 is 980€ with adapter. Fortunately, the Z 50 has an accessory shoe where you can mount accessories. Maybe it'll be a f/2.8 pancake that's excellent and then I'll sell the M5 and lenses and get it instead for the Z6 and that's it. My old RX100 III is still okay, and I like the bounce flash option, but the AF process is so miserable that it's irritating to use. The comments do not match the score given at the end. It's a lot more than just a shutter release. As a further comment I would say that I compared the grip of the Z50 to the non -grip of the Fuji XT3 snd XT30 and I found the Fujis extremely awkward to use and near impossible using only one hand. Today, Nikon Inc. announced the next Z series mirrorless camera, the DX-format Nikon Z 50, along with two new companion NIKKOR Z lenses, the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR and NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR. My first camera and one of Olympus first MILC's the E-PL1 had some flaws, but that was 10 years ago. Holy Moly does it come in handy. Capable of holding two Nikon EN-EL15B lithium batteries, this grip provides an increase of up to 180% on shooting times. I have old Nikon glass but they are from the film days and won't be of much use on this camera. Actually a few points...The folks that are bashing the Z50 are the usual suspects. The Z50 comes with the best kit lenses (bar none) in the industryThe Z50, ergonomically, is the best feeling camera against all of it's competitorsThe Z50 build and weather sealing is among the best (and far better than the Sony, Canon, and Fuji offerings) in it's price point. Nikon could do as canon and make the viewfinder an option as well as reduce the controls much more and put them on the rear screen. regards. . (laughed about Ken Rockwell saying that but maybe he was right)Shame that Nikon doesn't give us more Z DX lenses and Tamron and Sigma are hesitating. *Of course, the Focus Mode/AF-Area Mode function could equally easily be set to another customisable button, for example on the rear of the camera, if the user found that more comfortable or convenient. For me, I owned a z6 and almost all the z lenses this was a no brainer for a small personal camera, and backup. The Thanksgiving break gave us a chance to take the Nikon Z50 on a tour of New Orleans. This is what allowed people to get into off camera flash with only a single external unit and is a stepping stone to more sophisticated setups. I couldn't be happier. I couldn't agree more and this is perfect picture to show the issue. A bigger mount. In the past, I've rented a Z6—Nikon's first foray into pro-level mirrorless cameras—for a couple events, and I also own a Sony a6000 and have rented a Sony A7iii for a couple events. You have to get used to turning on after time out and stuff but it's pretty handy. There are so many fine alternatives you can choose from - so why buy a Z50. Yes, with your brilliant thinking, apple should stop making computers and smartphones, with android and windows its a crowded field. Leading all cameras. From a couple old nice film bodies I started with, to the earliest digital cameras which had terrible IQ but the ability to instantly review and share photos, to DSLRs which quickly surpassed the quality of 35mm film photography, it has been an eventful 25 years. Ah, just spotted these comments. Cross your fingers and hope the battery lasts your entire shooting session! Yeah, this 50/1.8s is expensive but one of then best 50mm lens on market. I would summarize my review by saying I'll be returning the Z50 Yellow box. Yet the Z50 manages to have the upper hand for certain aspects such as video and continuous shooting speeds. Plus with the terrible ergonomics of the a6400 who could ask for any more. Finally, every time you drop out of the focus point mode, or the camera goes to sleep and wakes again, the focus point is reset to the center. This also means the sensor's AF system has to work really hard to focus, since there's a lot less light available. I shoot a lot of birds, but also landscapes, street and the insides of churches on vacations). Our intrepid DPRTV team up in Canada has been braving the freezing conditions to bring us a gallery of images from the new Panasonic S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 Macro OIS. The camera is targeted at people who will be marketed two OIS lenses. Even the reviewer did it. I used mainly landscape images at higher F-stops. Yes they are a bit slow, but very sharp and compact for what they are. I get why they didn't make all the lenses first, and well you know Covid19! This sensor is good enough for large prints if the need arises (I have often printed 20 x 30 prints with 12 megapixel D700 files and they look great). Another separate approach for quick access to the focus mode and AF area selections is the i menu, which can be brought up with a quick click of the i button or a touch on the screen icon, and then quickly altered by touch, dial or a combination of both. In fact, ML-L7 is the model number. I bet long term canon releases an APSC camera on the RF platform and phase out the ef-m mount. hear anything besides shutters clacking away at press conferences someday, Review: Sony 20mm f/2.8 E-mount pancake lens SEL20F28, Review: Night soccer with the Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR II. Compared to the Nikon 1 cameras, the best thing going for it is a hot shoe! The Enthusiast/hobbyists already have cameras to the rim. and an f/2.8 lens. Front view of the Z50 with no lens fitted. There were there first, that's all. You can't (to my knowledge) start a video recording without switching to video mode. But why just now? Really like it. The Sigma 28-70mm DG DN F2.8 is a compact standard zoom for full-frame L- and E-mount bodies. The adapter is very solid, but it does extend a bit down from the body of the Z50, meaning some lenses (notably lighter lenses like the 50mm) balance a little strange on the body, and when you set down the camera it kind of angles upwards, making it awkward to set it down and pick it up again: Using it with more substantial glass makes for a more balanced feel, but it's still a bit annoying having the FTZ extend down further than the body of the camera, and could cause issues with balance on some tripods, depending on your setup. I think this is a winner for value just like the many models of consumer 70-300mm zooms Nikon has produced before it, but it doesn't replace my desire for a 200-500mm zoom lens! Great on the go, the camera is equipped with an ergonomic grip for a firm grasp and easy reach across the buttons. Quite interesting how Canon and nikon went two separate ways when it comes to their APS-C and ff milcs mounts. The lens is so sharp, noise is so low in darker situations. What a bright idea. Nikon has the same mount so id you want to upgrade in the future you dont have to sell all the lenses to and of you shoot both formats you can use the same lenses but it is a Huge mount made for big sensors. Sometimes I'd miss the ring and grasp the popped-out portion of the lens, or only get a weak grasp on the zoom ring. Canon's M6II doesn't have an EVF, who needs the third point of stability, or needs to use a camera in day light, my smartphone doesn't have an EVF. It incorporates a Leica-branded four camera array, complete with a macro and telephoto camera. After landing on Mars on February 18, Perseverance has been busy. This is not targeted to the point and shoot users. Im not a lens engineer but something tells me it Will be Harder for nIkon to make a light and cheap wideangle zoom Like canons ef-m 10-22mm when its supposed to fit the fullframe cameras to. For the first time on the Z mount, Nikon's produced a tiny 'pancake' style lens great for portability, similar to the one I sometimes use on my Sony a6000, the E-mount 16-50mm: The Sony is a mostly-terrible lens. So far very impressed. See Dpreview comparison widget in this review and full res samples if needed. Read the conclusion, it explains exactly why the Z 50 received the silver rather than gold award. Although a lot of people only upload images to Instagram from their smartphones, the app is much more than just a mobile photography platform. It works well and keeps me in the Nikon family. No aperture, no date, and certainly no price. One final observation about the 16-50mm zoom: the actual zoom ring is very narrow, meaning it will take some getting used to. Which means you buy the camera and get one battery. Plus you don't look like a 12 year old holding your cellphone out to take a snapshot. @Peter Bendheim, people Troll because they are unhappy. Chris has the answers. For my shooting, using available light, I would sometimes have to crank the ISO to 12,800 to get a usable shutter speed, even with VR in situations where my subjects weren't moving much. Excellent product. The z50 is a more direct sister model to the D7xxx series than to the D5xxx series. I am also not keen on the blackouts which I get unless shooting extended high with the electronic shutter. I don't mind them using a 20 MP sensor. Nikon Z50 - Body and Handling. The much-rumored Z50 is here. I've added that detail to the first page of the review. When paired with its 11 frames-per-second continuous shooting mode, this makes for a decent portrait and sports photography camera, in theory. The Nikon MB-N10 Battery Grip is ideal for taking full advantage of the powerful Nikon Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras. I wanted a smaller camera to pack on the motorcycle (so the Z7 wouldn't be at risk) so it had to be light, and not too expensive. See how it did with both the kit zoom and the new Nikkor Z 24mm F1.8 S. Being cooped up inside doesn't mean you have to take a break from photography. How's it Handle? Don't understand what Nikon is doing here.We need smaller prime lenses for Z DX and also Z full frame. I can supplement a lens like that with one of the f1.8 primes and be good to go. I just downloaded some of your RAW sample images (thank you!) The AF is not best in class but respectable. No matter, it won't change the fact that the Z cameras are crap. Or maybe they flat out don’t want to devalue it across other cameras. The lack of IBIS is head-scratching, especially since it's in the Z6 and Z7. Why should I taken into account that this is Nikon's first generation when other players have better offerings at this moment? The com… Most of these reviews should begin with tagline "What is new for [brand] lovers." Nikon hit this one out of the ballpark, highly recommended, and I don't work for Nikon. Moving on, I also wanted to compare the Nikon 50-250mm lens to my cheap Sony 50-210mm lens. 1854 Media and the British Journal of Photography recently announced 30 images, along with three bodies of work, as winners for the 2021 Portraits of Humanity competition. The Snapbridge app works better with the Nikon than I found the Fuji app to work with the XT30. The focussing does struggle at times quite a bit but you get used to it and learn to work with it. Zoom in a little with this lens, and you'll have to trade off a bit of image quality to get a sharp image at apertures f/6.3 and beyond. We've been shooting with the Z50 for a while and have plenty of real-world shots to show you how the camera performs. Sorry about that. I'm not sure to read any mention of the issue during the review. I agree though, things like focus peaking made the Sony easy to use with manual lenses and by today's standard it is old news. I'm glad Nikon finally released the Z50. Bird photography is one of the exceptions. Sorry but i was a Nikon 1 user and i am a little bit disappointed from Nikon. For the most part, the Z50 is a slimmed down Z6/Z7. Funny how the ergonomics don't look import on paper to pixel peepers that only look at specs and images at 200%. I am still experimenting. If you shoot video, and use a microphone anywhere near the camera body (e.g. The Z50 costs less than half of a Z6, and that ibis is expensive to produce?? Smart phone or a remote button. I'm not asking for much, just a 35 mm-e lens for my use, and let's do a 50 mm-e and 24 mm-e for other folks since I've seen those requested, that are for DX-Z-mount specifically, meaning small and not very expensive. Beside that, nobody likes to pay 180$ for a 32Gbyte card for the Z6 and Z7. One thing that's slightly annoying is you can't store all your settings to an SD card like you can on the Z6 or Z7 (at least, not that I'm aware of). The Z50 is very good, but it would be great if Canon and Nikon made truly professional APS-C mirrorless cameras to replace the 7D Mark II and D500, respectively. Also the added bonus of the Canon platform is the different mount, so when you want to move to full frame you get to repurchase all your lenses all over. I also edited some RAW samples of the 12-40 Olympus, 28-75 Tamron, 12-60 Leica/Panasonic, 16-80 Fuji and 24-70 Nikon Z6 and with the exception of the Tamron (which is full frame) I couldn't really spot a difference in the final images.Of course, the situation is different if you need bokeh. You have to mount much larger, heavier FX-sized glass to be able to get better quality. I dont need two card slots, vertical grips and other "holy grails" of modern camera thrashers. At home you only notice that the video clips are missing due to incorrect operation. The Kit lens is very sharp. The Jpeg IQ is awesome. The Z50 looks like a decent camera, I'd love to try it for a weekend. Wasn't the mount diameter main thing about this mount. I use one. I can only give my recommendations on my own experience as an enthusiast, but not an expert by any means. In my opinion, the Z50 is a little bit ugly. Interesting contrast, my experience compared to yours. Professional wildlife photographer and Olympus Visionary Scott Bourne is one of the best-known names in bird photography. I know in not a engineer but thanks for pointing that out. On my D700 and D750, I often switch to 3D Focus Tracking, and it's like magic. The Z50 with the 16-50 fits that bill perfectly. But I really like the idea of the little 22 mm so that's really the reason I have the M5. But I've been looking on Flickr, and the typical picture from the Z50 is much better than the typical picture from M-6 M2. Silent photography (enabled in the 'Photo shooting menu') is a neat trick, and I could imagine using it for some situations like silent parts of wedding photography or the quiet liturgies I sometimes shoot. The VR in the 16-50 is as good as it gets, it is very stable in video also. There are cheap knock offs too but I have Nikon remote. (+-40$), Meike MK-Z-AF1 AF Auto Focus Macro Metal Extension Tube Adapter Ring(11mm+18mm) for Nikon Z Series Micro Cameras Z6 Z7. when Sony gave the opportunity to use old or new lenses from other companies by switching to mirrorless distances by using new adapters, an amazing hype was created around it. Only having one choice drives down prices and pushes innovation. I realize there is an optional grips available but I am rying to keep things compact and light. Have a fold-upside-down LCD that swings under the camera (which has a less complex hinge, but doesn't allow the LCD to be flipped down on a tripod). It's a really solid camera with no real red flags or major shortcomings. SD? This camera sensor if the same as D500 and one the best on the market. I personally have had trouble with an IR remote. Actually I think they are the direct competitors plus the sony A6400. People using this camera arguably need it more because they might be more video-oriented or more likely to use the camera handheld. It's not very easy to use one hand to both hold down the F1 or F2 button (especially with bulkier lenses) while rotating both control dials to select the appropriate AF mode and area. Given the lack of quality Z-mount lenses optimized for APS-C probably has a lot to do with it. There's sigma 18-35 f1.8. I paid less for this camera (with the FTZ adapter) than I would have for an upgraded smartphone and the picture quality is excellent.
